Sustainable charging schedule of electric buses in a University Campus: A rolling horizon approach

The new juncture of concerns about climate change and finite energy resources has been changing products processes toward a path preserving the environment efficiency. Electric mobility along with sustainable charging stations constitutes one way to reduce environmental impacts. However, coordination triggers several challenges that require proper management strategies. This work proposes an optimization model minimize operational costs station (CS) under different types for electric bus, as part living lab in public transport system University Campinas (Unicamp, Brazil). problem is solved using dynamic approach based on rolling horizon method uses input real data obtained from installed photovoltaic panels operation bus circulating at Unicamp facilities. results show schedule defined by cost effective, reducing monthly 52% when compared actual carried out campus. Furthermore, inclusion significant reduction costs, which can be enhanced battery storage system. also demonstrate CS are not only linked technical issues, but regulatory issues. Then, proposed flexible tool allows analysis schedules fleet buses via stations.
